What Is ACH Payment Method?

Home improvement businesses can take advantage of the convenient ACH payment method.

You run a home improvement business and are looking for ways to collect payment. You likely already know about credit and debit payments, as well as checks and cash, but there is yet another highly popular option that you could consider. Let’s delve into the convenient ACH payment method.

The Automated Clearing House (ACH)

The National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA), eventually became Nacha and still runs the Automated Clearing House since its inception in 1974. The ACH is a network that electronically transfers money between bank accounts for both individuals and businesses. It services the United States, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. One can make international transactions, but it will take longer than a wire transfer.

What Is ACH Payment?

ACH payment systems are used by businesses to pay employees via direct deposit, but they are also a safe and convenient way for customers to pay for many services, such as home improvement. This latter use is known as direct payment.

Within direct payment are two payment methods: ACH credit and ACH debit.

With ACH credit, the customer is responsible for paying the business. In other words, the customer actively makes the transfer from their account to the business’s.

Meanwhile, ACH debit invites the business to draw the payment directly from the customer’s bank account. The business has the active role of pulling money from one account to the other.
